How to Control Your Map Style and Layers

How to Control Your Map Style and Layers

The map is the foundation of your mission plan, providing important context for safe and efficient operations. AirHub's interactive map allows you to customize your view to suit your needs. You can switch between different visual styles (like Satellite, Dark, or Light mode), overlay important data like airspace regulations and ground hazards, and even display custom map layers unique to your organization. This article explains how to control these features to get the most out of your map view.

Map Styles and Airspace Advisories

1.1 Ground Control – Map Styles and Filtering Layers

Before you start:
The map in AirHub can display various layers of operational data, including regulatory advisories, ground hazards, and organisational overlays. You can also switch between different map styles to optimise visibility depending on your environment or lighting conditions.

You can manage all of these settings directly from the map layer menu, located in the lower right corner of the map view.

1.2 Changing Map Styles

  1. In any view that contains a map, such as the Mission Editor or Mission Planner, click the map layer button (icon with three stacked sheets) in the righthand side of the screen.

  2. A settings panel will appear.

  3. At the top of this panel, select one of the available map styles to instantly change the base map’s appearance:
Light (Day Mode): Standard high-contrast view for bright environments.
Dark (Night Mode): Low-glare view suitable for low-light conditions.
Streets (Default): Displays road names, borders, and infrastructure details.
Satellite (Imagery): Shows terrain and real-world imagery for precise visual reference.

Each style updates instantly, allowing you to adjust the view for operational clarity or personal preference.

1.3 Filtering Map Layers

Below the map style options, you can toggle different data layers to control what information appears on your map.
Each layer can be enabled or disabled individually:

Regulations: Displays airspace restrictions, advisories, and controlled zones sourced from verified aviation data providers.
Ground Hazards: Highlights ground-level obstacles and sensitive areas to improve situational awareness.
Organisational Map Layers: Shows custom overlays uploaded by your organisation, such as KML or GeoJSON files containing operational boundaries, infrastructure maps, or other data.

These layers can be combined or filtered as needed, ensuring your map view only shows the information relevant to your mission.

1.4 Reading Regulation and Airspace Advisories

The map includes real-time airspace regulation advisories to help you maintain compliance and plan flights safely.

  1. Locate the advisory indicator in the top right corner of the map. This indicator provides a quick summary of airspace restrictions and advisories in your current view.

  2. Click on the indicator to expand a detailed list of all active advisories, such as:
    • Controlled or restricted airspace.
    • Temporary flight restrictions (TFRs).
    • NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen).

  3. Select any advisory from the list to view detailed information.
    • A dialog will open, showing all relevant data about that airspace, including coordinates, effective dates, altitude limits, and operational notes.

These advisories are continuously updated in real time, allowing you to make informed operational decisions before and during each mission.

1.5 Summary

The map settings in AirHub provide complete control over how your operational data is displayed.
By adjusting map styles, filtering relevant layers, and reviewing real-time airspace advisories, you can maintain full situational awareness and compliance during every stage of flight planning and execution.
