Before you start
DJI Smart Controllers run a restricted version of Android and do not include the Google Play Store. The only browser built in is Lightning Browser, which frequently renders modern websites incorrectly. A common example is airhub.app/download, where the page layout can shift or collapse in a way that hides or disables download buttons.
Installing Google Chrome ensures full compatibility with the AirHub website, allowing reliable downloads and proper display of all pages, and prevents future issues.
1.1 Finding the Correct Chrome APK for Your Controller
DJI Smart Controllers must install Chrome using an APK file. APKs must match the Android version running on the controller.
Checking your Android version
Open Settings on the DJI Smart Controller.
Scroll to About.
Look for the Android version entry.
Controllers commonly run Android 7, 8, 9, or 10 depending on the hardware model and firmware.
Selecting the correct APK
Chrome APKs are released in multiple variants. They typically list the minimum supported Android version, such as:
- Chrome for Android 7 and up
- Chrome for Android 10 and up
You must select a version that is compatible with or lower than your controller’s Android version.
For example:
If your controller runs Android 7, choose an APK labelled Android 7+.
If your controller runs Android 10, choose Android 10+.
For a known working version on Android 7 and up, use THIS LINK.
For custom versions; a trusted and frequently used source for Chrome APKs is:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/chrome/
APKMirror is a Google-verified redistribution platform and provides full version numbers and compatibility details for each release.
1.2 Install Chrome Using an SD Card
This method works always, even when Lightning Browser completely breaks the APK download page.
On your computer, visit THIS LINK.
Check the APK for your controller’s correct Android version.
Copy the APK to a microSD card, in a place where you can find it again on the controller.
Insert the SD card into the DJI Smart Controller.
Open the file manager on the controller.
Locate and open the APK file.
Approve installation when prompted.
Chrome will be installed and available in your app list.
1.3 Install Chrome Using the Lightning Browser
If the Lightning Browser displays the APKMirror page correctly, you can install directly on the controller.
Open the Lightning Browser.
Select a Chrome version that matches your Android version.
Download the APK file.
Open the file using the controller’s file manager.
Approve installation from unknown sources.
Chrome will now appear in the app list.
If the page layout is broken and the download button does not appear, use the manual installation method below.
1.4 Using Chrome on the DJI Smart Controller
After installation:
Open Chrome from the applications menu.
Visit www.airhub.app/download.
Confirm the download buttons, text, and layout display correctly.
Download the required AirHub apps using Chrome instead of Lightning Browser.
This ensures reliable downloads and prevents layout issues during installations or updates.
1.5 Troubleshooting
If Chrome does not install or launch:
Verify that the APK matches the controller’s Android version.
Try an older release if the newest version fails.
Ensure installation from unknown sources is allowed.
Restart the controller and reinstall.
