An important part of mission planning is defining exclusion zones where the drone should not fly. Defining No-Fly Zones is a safety measure used to mark areas such as sensitive infrastructure, private property, or known hazards, improving operational safety.
No-Fly Zone Functionality: Geofence vs. Visual Reference
It is important to understand how a No-Fly Zone functions based on your mission type:
For Ground Station Missions (Automated): The No-Fly Zone you create acts as a live geofence. The system's flight planner will avoid routing the drone through this defined area, providing an important automated safety feature.
For Pilot Missions (Manual): The No-Fly Zone serves as a visual reference on the map for the pilot. It does not function as an active geofence, and there is no system intervention to prevent the pilot from flying into the area.
1. How to Draw a No-Fly Zone
Open an existing Mission or create a new one from the sidebar.
Navigate to your intended flight location by scrolling on the map or by entering a location in the search bar at the top right of the map.
In the action bar located in the header above the map, click the draw no-fly zone icon.
You can choose to draw a Polygon.
Click on the map to begin drawing. For a polygon, click to place each point and double-click the final point to close the shape.
Once drawn, your No-Fly Zone will appear on the map (Shaded in red) and will also be listed in the Fly Zone tab in the mission planner.
2. How to Configure No-Fly Zone Settings
After drawing your No-Fly Zone, you can give it a name for easy identification.
In the mission planner sidebar, click on the Fly Zone tab.
Click on the No-Fly Zone you just created to open its settings panel.
Here, you can give the zone a descriptive Name (e.g., "School Building," "Private Residence").
By defining No-Fly Zones, you add an important layer of safety to your mission plan, ensuring all participants are aware of areas to be avoided during the operation.
