Creating and Managing No-Fly Zones
1.1 Ground Control – No-Fly Zone Overview
Before you start:
An essential step in mission planning is defining No-Fly Zones, areas where the drone must not enter.
These zones help prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety and privacy regulations by marking sensitive infrastructure, private property, or known hazards.
In AirHub, No-Fly Zones enhance operational safety by either acting as geofences for automated flights or as visual references for manually flown missions.
1.2 No-Fly Zone Functionality – Geofence vs. Visual Reference
Understanding how No-Fly Zones behave in different mission types is important for correct use.
For Ground Station Missions (Automated):
• The No-Fly Zone functions as a live geofence.
• The flight planner automatically avoids routing the drone through the defined area.
• This adds a layer of automated safety during pre-programmed flight execution.
For Pilot Missions (Manual):
• The No-Fly Zone appears as a visual reference only.
• It does not prevent the pilot from entering the area.
• The pilot must manually ensure the drone remains outside the marked boundary.
1.3 How to Draw a No-Fly Zone
Open an existing mission or create a new one from the sidebar.
Navigate to your desired flight area by scrolling on the map or using the search bar at the top right of the screen.
In the action bar located above the map, click the Draw No-Fly Zone icon.
Choose Polygon from the available drawing options.
Click on the map to start defining the zone.
• Click to place each point of the polygon.
• Double-click the final point to close the shape.Once drawn, the No-Fly Zone will appear shaded in red on the map.
• It will also be listed under the Fly Zone tab in the mission planner.
1.4 How to Configure No-Fly Zone Settings
After creating the zone, you can customise its details for clarity and reference.
In the mission planner sidebar, click on the Fly Zone tab.
Find and select the No-Fly Zone you created to open its settings panel.
Enter a Name to help identify it quickly, for example:
• School Building
• Private Residence
• High-Voltage Power LineReview the zone boundaries on the map to ensure full coverage of the intended area.
Clearly defining No-Fly Zones increases awareness for all mission participants and helps maintain compliance and operational safety throughout your flight.
1.5 Summary
No-Fly Zones in AirHub are a vital mission planning tool for marking restricted or sensitive areas.
They can act as automated geofences in Ground Station Missions or visual guidance in Pilot Missions.
By properly defining and naming these zones, pilots and teams can maintain safe operations and avoid potential risks during every mission.
