Custom Map Layers
1.1 Drone Operations Center – Custom Map Layers
Before you start:
Custom map layers allow you to display your own geographic data on the AirHub map. This helps you visualise additional operational or environmental information directly within the Drone Operations Centre (DOC).
Custom layers can be used for displaying infrastructure, reference points, or network coverage alongside your missions, giving your team improved situational awareness.
Requirements:
• Available only within an organisation workspace.
• Requires an Enterprise subscription.
• You must have the correct permissions to upload and manage map layers in the Drone Operations Centre.
1.2 What Custom Map Layers Are
Custom map layers are geospatial data overlays that appear directly on the AirHub map. They allow you to integrate external geographic data with your mission view, improving both planning accuracy and operational context.
Common use cases include:
• Displaying hectometre markers or other reference points.
• Highlighting office locations or operational sites.
• Showing network coverage data, such as LTE or 5G maps.
• Visualising national pipelines, restricted areas, or infrastructure.
You can also assign a colour to each map layer to easily distinguish between different datasets, such as by network type, region, or facility category.
1.3 Uploading a Custom Map Layer
Open the Drone Operations Center (DOC) and log in to your organisation workspace.
From the left-hand menu, go to Manage → Organisation → Custom Map Layers.
Click + Add Layer.
Select your file. Supported file formats are KML and GeoJSON.
Enter a name for the layer and an optional category for organisation.
Assign a colour to the layer to make it easily identifiable on the map.
Click Save to upload and activate your layer.
Your new map layer will now be available within the workspace.
1.4 Managing and Viewing Custom Layers
Once created, you can:
• Toggle visibility of map layers directly from the map view, not from the settings menu.
• Rename or recolour existing layers for easier reference.
• Delete layers that are no longer needed.
• Share layers with all users in your organisation who have the correct access permissions.
Map layers are stored at the organisation level and remain visible to authorised users across the workspace.
1.5 Summary
Custom map layers in AirHub enhance the operational overview by integrating your own KML or GeoJSON data into the Drone Operations Centre. You can colour-code, manage, and view layers directly on the map to visualise infrastructure, network data, or locations specific to your organisation’s operations.
